Pitchou was brought to Hotel Ilomba in Kribi to be sold after her mother had been killed by hunters. She stayed there for three days until the hotel owners could no longer bear to watch her suffer. The Osih family donated her to the LWC. She was dehydrated and had bad diarrhea, ringworm and a cough upon arrival. Once her health had stabilized and she was wormed, her hair soon came back. However, she has developped the bad habit of pulling out her hair, so she is still bald at some places. In the local dialect ‘Pitchou’ means ‘spotty’; she was given that name on account of her appearance on arrival, when suffering from ring-worm.
