When Nyango first arrived at LWC, there were no facilities to house her. She would wander throughout the whole zoo accompanying visitors. With funds made available through International Primate Protection League, an enclosure was built in 1997 to house all gorillas together. Now Nyango is much happier being able to play with other gorillas. Nyango is the well-known matriarch of the gorillas and always likes to be part of the action.
