On 3rd March 2009 for the first time a gorilla baby was born in the LWC. It is a girl and she is called Atinbi. Her mother Akiba is taking good care of her and father Chella often comes to see if all goes well.
Her name was given in memory of the two gorillas who died in 2008. Atinbi means replacement in Bakweri. We will never forget Izan and Oyin, but Atinbi’s birth gives us hope again for the future of our gorillas.
The complete story of Atinbi can be read on our blog at www.limbewildlifecentre.wildlifedirect.org
