Nanga Eboko Cres has been in the LWC since 19th May 2007. The Ministry of Forest and Wildlife, together with the NGO Last Great Ape, had confiscated him from a dealer in the village Nanga Eboko. Bethan Morgan, a primatologist working for CRES, brought Nanga to the LWC.
Upon arrival, Nanga suffered from shot wounds and an old fracture in the leg. He was brought to the provincial hospital for X-rays, which showed that several lead pellets were still in his body. Two pellets were surgically removed, but some small fragments were embedded too deeply in the bone and it was decided to leave them there. The fracture was already healing so a plaster was not necessary.
Nanga is estimated to be born in March 2006. He weighed 3.7 kg when he arrived, but in the first weeks he quickly gained almost a kilogram. He is now in the group of adult chimpanzees. He is one of the smallest there, but is doing great.
