Ilor arrived in the LWC on the 5th of August 2007 when he was around one and a half years old. He was confiscated in the village Ilor, close to Korup National Park. Ilor had been tied to a rope in someone’s house for quite a while after his parents had been killed by a hunter, being fed on plums and monkey cola.
From the beginning at LWC, Ilor ate everything, but he was a bit afraid of people. Most young chimpanzees like to be held, but with Ilor it took two weeks before he let us pick him up. The keepers could sit next to him, groom him and play with him, but not take him in our arms.
Later he turned into a very affectionate chimpanzee that climbed into our arms as soon as we entered the enclosure. But more imporantly, he gets along very well with the other chimpanzees. He is now in our adult group, and has many friends there.
The following link will show you a short film of our head keeper Jonathan when he first meets Ilor: “Jonathan meet Ilor“.
