Chimpanzees
The Limbe Wildlife Centre is home to 50 chimpanzees, of which 30 belong to the highly endangered vellerosus subspecies. Most chimpanzees are young when they arrive, their parents being killed for bushmeat. They are often malnourished and socially disturbed.
The chimpanzees are held in 3 groups: a group of infants, a mixed group and an adult group. The mixed group is living in the brand new island enclosure. In the near future more chimpanzees will be transfered to this new enclosure, where they can play in the water and on the large climbing structures, hide in bushes and high grass and make long walks along the perimeter.
