The Limbe Wildlife Centre is a collabaration between the Government of Cameroon (GoC) and the Pandrillus Foundation. A proportion of the funding is given by the GoC but the majority of the funding required for the development and running of the project is raised by the Pandrillus Foundation through initiatives with international wildlife conservation organisations, animal welfare charities, and individual donors, as well as through in-house fund raising initiatives.
Partners
The Ministery of Forestry and Wildlife (MINFOF) of the Government of Cameroon, represented at the project level by the Conservator, is the hosting partner of the Limbe Wildlife Centre project that is situated within the grounds of the Limbe Zoological Gardens. Most members of the LWC staff are also employed by MINFOF.
The Pandrillus Foundation is an international NGO, that is registered in the USA as a 501 c 3 non-profit organization. Since 1988, the Pandrillus Foundation has been working in Nigeria, primarily focussing on conservation efforts to protect the critically endangered drill monkey. Later the mission expanded to include chimpanzees and other wildlife species that share the drill’s habitat. The Pandrillus Foundation became involved in Cameroon in 1993, when the Limbe Wildlife Centre was founded. More information on the Pandrillus Foundation can be found at www.pandrillus.org. In Limbe, the Pandrillus Foundation is represented by the Project Manager. Pandrillus also employs an Assistant Project Manager, a Head Veterinarian, a Veterinary Nurse / Laboratory Technician, an Education Officer, several Animal Keepers and other staff members.
Sponsors
The Limbe Wildlife Centre would not exist without the help of international wildlife conservation organisations, animal welfare charities, and individual donors that have supported the project over the years with financial donations, gifts of equipment or staff training opportunities and we are extremely grateful to everybody who has helped.
Our primary sponsors who have supported us with long term core support are: the International Primate Protection League, the Pan African Sanctuaries Alliance, the Born Free Foundation, Fondation Brigitte Bardot, Pro-Wildlife (Germany), the International Fund for Animal Welfare, Chester Zoo (UK), World Parrot Trust and the Douala International Terminal. We are delighted that new sponsors have committed to supporting the LWC, like World of Wildlife and Stichting Weesaapjes.
